EtherNet/IP Conformance Test Lab (4)
Duration: 01.01.2020 bis 31.12.2026
The EtherNet/IP Conformance Test Lab project was launched on January 1, 2008. EtherNet/IP is one of the most widely used Ethernet-based industrial protocols. It was developed and is maintained by the Open Device Vendor Association (ODVA). Due to the rapidly growing demand for EtherNet/IP products, the ODVA has commissioned the Center Distributed Systems (CVS) at the IAF of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg to set up and operate the first European conformance test laboratory for EtherNet/IP products. Within the framework of this conformance test laboratory, devices for industrial use are tested for their conformance to the EtherNet/IP protocol - exclusively on behalf of the ODVA. Based on the experience gained in the application of Ethernet-based technology, the CVS develops extensive knowledge to support industrial users in the implementation of industrial communication systems.

Digital plant modeling with neutral data formats (DIAMOND) Subproject: Consistent, process-oriented data models in the engineering of production systems (KPDM)
Duration: 01.11.2022 bis 31.10.2025
When new products are introduced, existing production systems have to be expanded or modified. New manufacturing processes are derived from new products, which are implemented either manually or using plant technology. This system technology (resources) is therefore directly linked to changes to the product and process. The plant life cycle contains a large number of individual data-processing processes in various engineering disciplines, many of which are design processes. Each of these disciplines already works with digital models. The individual steps build on each other and each discipline consumes information from the previous process. Currently, this information is usually transferred manually, which takes a lot of time and leads to an increased number of errors. This also applies to the entire ecosystem, in which component manufacturers, for example, extract the relevant information from their own engineering and make it available to the entire value chain. However, the current speed of transformation in the automotive industry no longer allows for long project runtimes and negative quality influences. It is therefore necessary to make changes available to all those involved in the process in a timely manner and to enable a common "picture" via an efficient exchange of information. The main objective of the OvGU within the DIAMOND-KPDM project is the development and application demonstration of a procedure for the application-specific creation and use of a system of coordinated domain-specific and cross-domain data models, the so-called Common Data Model, which enables an efficient and effective design of production systems through an efficient and effective transformation, integration and selection of design data.

Completed projects
SBA-K1 COMET Zentrum interacting Cristian Doppler Lab Lecurity and Quality Improvement in the Production System Lifecycle (CDL-SQI)
Duration: 01.04.2018 bis 31.03.2023
Design processes for production systems are characterized by engineering services in which a wide variety of engineering disciplines are involved with specialized design tools and in which a wide variety of design results must be consistently exchanged between these design tools. To date, various technologies have been developed for this information exchange, which can fulfill different data exchange requirements, for example with regard to information structuring, information security and information consistency.
The aim of the project is to bring some of these technologies together in a common scenario and to enable companies using them to gradually adapt their design processes to the use of this set of technologies. The internationally standardized data exchange format AutomationML (according to IEC 62714) will be of particular importance.

EtherNet/IP Conformance Test Lab
Duration: 01.01.2018 bis 31.12.2019
EtherNet/IP is one of the most used Ethernet based industrial communication protocols. It has been developed and will be maintained by Open Device Vendor Association (ODVA). Following the fast increasing request for EtherNet/IP based products, ODVA has authorised the Centre Distributed Systems (CVS) at IAF of Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany, to establish the first European conformance test lab for EtherNet/IP products. Within this conformance test lab CVS will execute conformance tests for devices intended to be used within industrial applications exploiting EtherNet/IP based communication to prove the protocol conformance of them. These tests will be executed only by order of ODVA. On the basis of experiences gained in the application of Ethernet-based technology the CVS develops extensive knowledge resources to support industrial users in the implementation of industrial communication systems. www.iaf-bg.ovgu.de/odva_tsp
Analysis and evaluation in the field of applied mechatronic engineering of industrial plants (AMENIA) - Advanced Manufacturing Process Chain(AMProC)
Duration: 01.01.2015 bis 30.09.2018
In the increasingly complex production of increasingly complex products, the identification of dependencies between production processes and product properties (or product design) and their use to control production processes is a growing challenge.
The aim of the research is to provide procedures and application knowledge that enable an integrated view of the product and production process in the design of production systems on the one hand and the design of adaptable control structures for production systems on the other. The aim is to shorten the time-to-market of products, improve production efficiency and increase product quality.

Generic, protocol-independent configuration tool for industrial communication networks (GecKo)
Duration: 01.01.2015 bis 30.06.2016
The scope of the research project Gecko is allocated within the problem range of communication within industrial facilities. The aim of the project is the creation of a novel methodology and necessary tools to support or enable protocol- and architecture crossing design, configuration and documentation of arbitrary industrial communications networks. Especially SMEs will be enabled to meet high individualization of kind and characteristics of technologies within the use cases of their customers. Therefore, methodologies and data models for the engineering of industrial communication structures are analyzed, a methodology is developed for integration and consistent use of these data, suitable specifically built tool components are integrated within one tool, and their applicability is evaluated.
GecKo-FA: This partial project focusses on the application field of factory automation and strives to lessen the duration of installation and commisiioning of the communications systems by 20%, therefor to limit the error rate and improve its documentation. (DEHOF)
GecKo-CB: The partial project GecKo-CB focusses on the development and execution of commuications system models within neutral format, which are qualified for Gecko project parts and beyond that for the universal use within arbitrary applications. (OvGU)
GecKo-PV: The partial project GecKo-PV focusses on the application field of photovoltaics. It strives to shorten the design of PV-systems heavily by standardized processes and library based layout. (iPLON)
