Electric-Otto-Mobiles Development
May 2014 The Chair of "Factory Operations and Production Systems" organised a competition on the design of electric mobiles; electric drive and muscle power had to be combined. As part of the lecture "Project work in Teams" quite a number of teams participated with various vehicle designs. The team, managed by the Chair finished second with a racing time of 17 minutes and 45 seconds.
The admission requirements: At least three carrying wheels, one steering and an effective brake system! A given distance including turns, hills and slopes had to be taken in shortest time carrying two adult persons and a transportation lot of 20 full bottles of beverages. Additionally, the teams had to rotate the driver.
The Chair's team had been provided with an electric motor including control and a budget for materials and pieces. The focus was put on unconventional solutions. The management of the Chair brought up a systematic solution by typology and cost benefit analysis. Our team also pre-analysed the racing ground and rechecked all given criteria. The Chair’s vehicle was the fastest among all participating; however, valuable time was lost due to the defect of an electric melting fuse.
