Data ecosystem for simulation

PhD Supervisor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Arndt Lüder

Data management during the design phase of the production line is a major challenge for OEMs in the automotive industry. Simulation is widely used in the industry as an important tool to support this phase. This digital tool can not only support the validation of certain key decisions, but also help to mitigate certain technical risks. The model can be used in the design phase to visualise the design concept. In the virtual commissioning phase, the model can be used to virtually check collisions and the runs. In the operation phase, the model can be used as a digital twin of the physical plant for monitoring. The model becomes more and more detailed as the project develops, so a smooth exchange of information between the simulation domain and other relevant domains is important. A data ecosystem will help the simulation engineer to collect, use, analyse and manage simulation-related information and get an overview of the simulation-related requirements at the beginning of each project. This system will be developed on the basis of a ‘Common Data Model (CDM)’, which is being developed as part of the ‘DIAMOND’ research project.
